History of The Valley

Old Buildings and Landmarks

The Valley doesn't have many old buildings from the time when Anguilla was a colony. This is because the island's government moved to St. Kitts in 1825.

However, one important old building still stands: Wallblake House. It was built way back in 1787 and is now used by the local Catholic Church as a home for the priest. You can also see the ruins of the Old Court House on Crocus Hill, which is the highest point on the island. Only some broken walls of the old jail cells remain.

Near Wallblake House, you'll find St. Gerard's Catholic Church. This church has a very unique look, made from pebbles, stones, cement, wood, and tiles.
