The Voodoo Plot is an exciting mystery book, the 72nd story in Hardy Boys series. It was written by Franklin W. Dixon and first published by Wanderer Books in 1982. This book follows the famous teen detectives, Frank and Joe Hardy, as they try to solve a strange case involving robberies and an unusual curse.

Unraveling the Mystery: What's the Plot?

The story begins with the Hardy Boys and their friend Chet Morton. They visit a man named Rattlesnake Clem to investigate some recent robberies. A strange letter has been sent to the mayor, making unusual demands and hinting at danger. The mayor asks the Hardy Boys to look into this puzzling situation. They need to figure out if Rattlesnake Clem is involved or if someone else is pretending to be an old historical figure, King George III.

The Start of the Investigation

The Hardy Boys are watching an antiques shop when a robbery happens. The shop owner blames them for not paying attention! Soon after, they learn that the grandfather of a basketball player, Stretch Walker, believes he is under a voodoo curse. This adds a new, spooky layer to their mystery.

Following the Clues

Frank and Joe fly off to meet 'Rattlesnake Clem'. He is a quirky character who thinks the American Revolution is still happening and calls himself the "Swamp Fox." Clem is arrested when the stolen goods from the antique shop are found in his garage. But is he really the thief?

Solving the Voodoo Puzzle

Later, the Hardy Boys find Stretch Walker. They help him understand the strange events happening around his bar, called Stretch's. It seems a mysterious group is trying to take over his business, using the idea of a voodoo cult to scare him.

The mystery finally comes to an end when the antique shop owner is revealed to be the real thief. He was pretending to be King George III all along! A strange detail from earlier in the story is also explained: someone stole a sock from Fenton Hardy (Frank and Joe's dad) to use it on a voodoo doll. When Aunt Gertrude hears about this, she realizes how dangerous the boys' detective work can be.

Who Are the Characters in the Story?

Besides Frank and Joe Hardy, several other characters help or hinder their investigation.

  • Iola Morton and Chet Morton are friends of the Hardy Boys. Chet often helps them with their cases.
  • Callie Shaw is Frank Hardy's girlfriend and also appears in the book.
