Track of the Zombie is the 71st book in Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series. It was written by Franklin W. Dixon and came out in 1982, published by Wanderer Books. This exciting mystery follows teen detectives Frank and Joe Hardy as they solve two puzzling cases at once!

The Mystery Begins

The story kicks off with the Hardy Boys saving a boy named Rolf Allen from a dangerous driver. This driver looks super creepy, almost like a zombie wearing an old Hessian soldier uniform! Rolf asks the Hardys to help him investigate a series of forest fires happening in Vermont. The main suspect? You guessed it – the zombie-like figure in the Hessian uniform.

Soon after, a circus owner named Tariski also asks for their help. Someone is trying to ruin his circus, and he needs the Hardy Boys to find out who is causing all the trouble. Frank and Joe decide to take on both mysteries!

Following the Clues

The Hardys meet Lonnie Mindo, a friend of Rolf's who is acting in a play called Julius Caesar. Lonnie is even playing Caesar himself! As the boys investigate, they find a hidden crypt with a coffin that belonged to Hessian soldiers. It looks like the "zombie" has been there.

During a strange forest fire, the Hardys spot the zombie again and try to chase him. But something stops them from catching him.

Later, Frank and Joe offer to play guitar for a concert hosted by a man named Pollard. They soon discover that Pollard is working with the bad guys. The Hardys almost get caught while investigating him, but they manage to escape just in time.

Circus Chaos

A few days later, the Hardys go to Tariski's circus. Things get wild when their friend Biff Hooper performs a very risky act that makes the audience nervous. Luckily, Joe Hardy steps in and saves the show, making sure everyone stays to watch. Tariski is very grateful to Joe for his quick thinking.

But the trouble isn't over! Someone lets a circus lion out of its cage. Another one of the Hardy brothers' friends, Chet Morton, becomes the hero of the day. He bravely calms the lion down using just a chair!

Solving the Case

Finally, all the bad guys are caught. The mysterious "zombie" turns out to be Lonnie Mindo! It's also revealed that Pollard and Tariski were part of the group causing all the problems. They are all arrested, which finally puts an end to the strange forest fires in Vermont and the sabotage at the circus.
