The Women's Museum: An Institute for the Future was a special museum located in Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. It was created to celebrate the history and achievements of women.
Sadly, the museum closed its doors on October 31, 2011. This happened because it ran out of money to keep operating.
How the Museum Started
The idea for the museum grew from a project called the Texas Women's History Project. This project wanted to learn more about how women helped develop the state of Texas.
This research led to a museum exhibit called Texas Women - A Celebration of History. This exhibit traveled around Texas in 1980 and 1981. It showed how important women were in the state's past.
Today, this special exhibit can be seen permanently at Texas Woman's University. It continues to teach people about the amazing contributions of women in Texas history.
