Kober's Early Work
Before working on airships, Kober was an engineer for a company that made balloons. In the 1890s, a famous person named Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin asked Kober for help. Count Zeppelin had an idea for a new kind of flying machine: an airship.
Building the First Zeppelin
Kober and Count Zeppelin worked together for several years. They designed the very first Zeppelin, which was called the Zeppelin LZ1. This was a huge step forward in aviation!
Founding a New Company
Later, in 1912, Kober started his own company. It was called Flugzeugbau Friedrichshafen GmbH. Count Zeppelin helped him with money to start it. This company became very important during World War I. It built more than 40% of the seaplanes (airplanes that can land on water) for the Imperial German Navy.
Kober's Family
Theodor Kober's daughter, Ilse Essers, also became a German engineer. She helped create important new ideas in the field of aeronautical engineering, which is about designing and building aircraft.
