Theodor Dumitru Stolojan (born 24 October 1943) is a Romanian politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Romania from September 1991 to November 1992. As an Economist, he has held many important roles in Romanian politics. He was also a Member of the European Parliament for Romania.

Theodor Stolojan's Early Career
Before the Romanian Revolution in 1989, Theodor Stolojan worked for the government. He was part of the Committee for State Planning. This committee helped decide how the country's economy would work.
Work in the Ministry of Finances
From 1972 to 1989, he worked at the Ministry of Finances. He started as an economist in the State Budget Department. Later, he became the Chief of Accountancy for the State Budget. He also worked as a deputy director in the Department for Foreign Exchange and International Financial Relations. These roles involved managing Romania's money and its financial dealings with other countries.
Becoming Prime Minister
Theodor Stolojan became the Prime Minister of Romania in September 1991. He held this important position until November 1992. As Prime Minister, he led the government and made big decisions for the country.
Economic Changes as Prime Minister
During his time as Prime Minister, his government started a plan to improve the economy. This plan included limiting wages and allowing prices to be set more freely. After his term, he worked for the World Bank. The World Bank is an international organization that helps countries with their economic development.
Return to Politics
In 2000, Theodor Stolojan returned to politics. He joined the National Liberal Party (PNL).
Running for President
In November 2000, he ran for the presidency of Romania. He finished in third place in the election. In August 2002, he was chosen to be the president of the PNL party.
Forming Alliances
In 2003, his party worked with the Democratic Party. They formed an alliance called "D.A. - Dreptate şi Adevăr," which means "Justice and Truth." In February 2004, he was chosen as the alliance's candidate for the presidential election that year.
Stepping Down from Leadership
On 2 October 2004, Stolojan decided to step down from leading the PNL. He also withdrew from the presidential race. He said that serious health problems were the reason for his decision. After this, he became a senior advisor to the new president, Traian Băsescu.
New Political Parties
In October 2006, Stolojan left the PNL. In December, he started a new party called the Liberal Democrats (PLD). He was elected as its president in March 2007. In January 2008, the PLD merged with the Democratic Party. They formed a new party called the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL). Stolojan became a member of this new party.
Another Prime Minister Nomination
The PDL won many seats in the 2008 election. On 10 December 2008, President Traian Băsescu chose Stolojan to be the Prime Minister again. However, five days later, Stolojan decided not to take the job. He said he wanted a younger person to lead. Emil Boc was then chosen instead.
Personal Life
Theodor Stolojan is married to Elena Stolojan. They have a son named Vlad Stolojan and a daughter named Ada Palea.
