Theodor Wisch (born December 13, 1907 – died January 11, 1995) was a military leader during World War II. He was part of the Waffen-SS, a special military branch of Nazi Germany.

Wisch commanded a famous unit called the SS Division Leibstandarte (LSSAH). He received several important military awards for his actions.

He took charge of the LSSAH division in April 1943. Later, in August 1944, he was badly hurt during a battle. This happened on the Western Front in an area known as the Falaise Pocket. After his injury, another commander, Wilhelm Mohnke, took over his role.

Military Awards and Honors

Theodor Wisch earned several significant awards for his service during the war. These awards recognized his bravery and leadership in combat.

Iron Cross

  • He received the Iron Cross in 1939. This award was given in two classes:
    • The 2nd Class on September 24, 1939.
    • The 1st Class on November 8, 1939.

German Cross in Gold

  • He was awarded the German Cross in Gold on February 25, 1943. This honor was given to him while he was a Standartenführer, a high rank in the Waffen-SS.

Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords

  • This was one of the highest military honors he received. It was given in stages:
    • The basic Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on September 15, 1941. At this time, he was a Sturmbannführer and led a battalion.
    • The Oak Leaves were added to his Knight's Cross on February 12, 1944. He was then a Brigadeführer and commander of the LSSAH.
    • The Swords were added on August 30, 1944. This was given when he was a Brigadeführer and Generalmajor of the Waffen-SS, still leading the LSSAH.
