The Story of Theodore Boone: The Abduction
This book follows 13-year-old Theodore Boone. His best friend, April, is not happy with her life at home. Her mother struggles to take care of her, and her father often leaves for days. He tours with his band, leaving April and her mother alone.
April's Disappearance
One night, Theo wakes up to shocking news: April has been taken! Everyone fears that April's cousin, Jack Leeper, might be involved. Jack is a known criminal who recently escaped from prison. He is seen in town and soon caught. Jack says he knows where April is. But he refuses to tell the police unless they agree to his demands.
Theo and his friends try to search for April. However, the police are not very helpful. Rumors about April's disappearance spread quickly. Things get even scarier when a body is found in the river. Luckily, after a few days, the police confirm it is not April. It is a man.
Theo's Clever Idea
Theo starts to think. What if April is with her dad? Her dad is touring with his band, playing at different places. Theo's parents, who are lawyers, leave town for a law conference. They leave Theo with their friends, the Whipples.
At the Whipples' house, Theo and his friend Chase Whipple get to work. They search social media pages for April's father's band. They soon spot a girl in one of the pictures. She is standing near the band, and they think it might be April!
The Rescue Mission
Theo convinces his uncle, Ike, to help him. Ike is like a second dad to Theo. Ike agrees to drive Theo to the band's next stop. Meanwhile, Chase distracts his older sister, who is supposed to be watching them. He makes up a story about what they are doing.
When Ike and Theo arrive, they find April in a busy basement party. They quickly grab April and try to leave. A band member stops them, asking what they are doing. Ike quickly makes up a story. He says they are friends of April's family and just wanted to say hello. The band member believes him, and the three of them drive safely back home to Strattenburg.
After the Rescue
Back home, everyone praises Theo for finding April. April's family then goes to court. They need to decide how to make her home life better. Throughout this fast-paced adventure, Theo shows how determined he is to help his friend. He even relies on his uncle Ike, who is often seen as the family's "black sheep."
