What Happens in the Story?
The story begins with everyone talking about the upcoming murder trial of Pete Duffy. Theo gets special permission from his teacher to attend the start of the trial. He plans to report back to his class about what he sees.
However, things take an unexpected turn. Pete Duffy disappears, and the trial has to be put on hold. When Theo goes back to school, he notices that his locker looks like someone has tried to open it. He doesn't report it right away.
One day, Theo is called to the principal's office. Two detectives are waiting for him there. They ask to search his locker. Inside, they find three stolen tablets from a local computer store called Big Mac's. The store had recently been broken into.
From that moment on, Theo becomes the main suspect for the robbery. To make things worse, a picture of Theo leaving the police station is shared around town. It also includes a description of the "crimes" he's accused of. This leads to some classmates teasing him.
During one teasing session, Theo's friend, Woody, steps in to defend him. Woody tells the teaser, Baxter, to stop. This leads to a fight between Woody and Baxter. Baxter's friend, Griff, joins in, and then Theo also jumps in to help Woody. All the students involved in the fight are suspended from school for two days. They are also put on probation for 30 days.
Later, Theo visits his uncle Ike. Ike suggests that the real thief might be the child of one of Theo's mom's clients. This child prefers their father over their mother. Ike and Theo start investigating. With some clever detective work, they eventually figure out who the real culprits are. The people responsible are then arrested.
