Thermoplasma is a type of tiny living thing called archaea. Archaea are like bacteria, but they are a different kind of life. Thermoplasma are special because they love to live in very hot and very acidic places. Think of places like hot springs or areas where coal is burning underground!

What Are Thermoplasma?
Thermoplasma belong to a group of archaea called Thermoplasmataceae. They are known for being able to survive in extreme environments.
Where They Live
These amazing tiny creatures thrive in places that would be too hot or too acidic for most other living things. They can be found in hot springs, volcanic areas, and even in burning coal piles.
How They Breathe and Eat
Thermoplasma are what we call facultative anaerobes. This means they can live with or without oxygen. They get their energy by "breathing" things like sulfur and other carbon-based materials. It's a bit like how we use oxygen, but they use different chemicals!
Their Special Skin
Unlike many other living things, Thermoplasma do not have a cell wall. Instead, they have a very unique outer layer called a membrane. This membrane is made of a special kind of fat and sugar molecule called a lipoglycan. This special "skin" helps them stay safe and strong in their super hot and acidic homes. It's what makes them so tough!
Types of Thermoplasma
Right now, scientists know about two main types, or species, of Thermoplasma:
- T. acidophilum
- T. volcanium
Both of these species share the amazing ability to live in extreme conditions.
