Thiago Camilo Palmieri (born September 20, 1984, in São Paulo) is a Brazilian racing driver. He has been competing in the Stock Car Brasil championship since 2003. He drives for Chevrolet. Thiago was the runner-up in the championship in 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2019. He has also won the famous Corrida do Milhão race three times.
Thiago's Racing Journey
Thiago Camilo grew up around racetracks. His father, Jose 'Bel' Camillo, was also a racing driver. He competed in different touring car races. His father finished his racing career in 2003, the same year Thiago started his own journey.
Thiago is one of the few Brazilian drivers who always wanted to race touring cars. He was not interested in open-wheel formula racing. In 1994, he started getting good results in karting races in São Paulo. He won many regional titles by 2000. In 2001, he joined the Stock Car Light series. He finished third in the championship for two years in a row.
In November 2004, Thiago made history. He won the last race of the season at Interlagos. This made him the youngest driver ever to win a Stock Car race. He was only 20 years, two months, and eight days old. Earlier that season, he also became the youngest driver to get a pole position. This happened on May 1st in Tarumã.
Thiago raced for the Vogel team for seven seasons. During this time, he won eight races and ten pole positions. He reached the Super Final four times in a row from 2006 to 2009. In 2009, he finished as the runner-up in the championship. In 2011, Thiago started a new partnership. He began racing for the RCM Motorsport team. This team is owned by Rosinei Campos, who had won four championships in the past seven seasons.
