The Thirsk Road drill hall is a special building in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, England. It's a place where military groups train and meet.

A Look Back at the Drill Hall

The Thirsk Road drill hall has a long and interesting history. It was built in 1911. The building was first used as the main base for the 4th Battalion of a group called the Green Howards.

The World Wars

When World War I started in August 1914, soldiers from the 4th Battalion gathered at this drill hall. They were then sent to fight on the Western Front. This was a major battle area in Europe.

Later, in 1938, the main base for the battalion moved to Middlesbrough. But after World War II ended, some parts of the 4th Battalion, Green Howards, came back to the Thirsk Road drill hall.

Changes Over Time

In 1961, the 4th Battalion joined with the 5th Battalion. They became the 4th/5th Battalion, The Green Howards. At this time, the military group at the drill hall was closed down.

However, in 1993, a small group of soldiers from that same regiment returned. They started using the drill hall again. In 2006, many regiments joined together to form the Yorkshire Regiment. A part of the 4th Battalion of this new regiment continued to use the drill hall.

Current Use

Today, the Thirsk Road drill hall is no longer an Army Reserve Centre. But it is still very active! It is used by the 2337 (Northallerton) Squadron of the Air Training Corps. This is a group for young people interested in aviation. The drill hall is also used by the Army Cadet Force. This group helps young people learn about the army and develop skills.
