Thomas Alcock (born 1762, died 1856) was an English soldier. He worked for the Bengal Army, which was part of the British East India Company. From 1810 to 1818, he was the Treasurer of Ordnance. This meant he managed the money for military supplies.

Early Life and Military Career

Thomas Alcock was born in 1762. His parents were William Alcock and Mary Mawbey. They lived in a place called Ravenstone. When Thomas's father, William, passed away, his uncle Joseph Mawbey helped the family. Joseph Mawbey was Mary's brother.

Uncle Joseph helped Thomas's brother, Joseph Alcock, get a job at the Treasury. He also bought a military position for Thomas. This allowed Thomas to join the army.

Thomas served in the Bengal Army. This army was part of the British East India Company, which traded with and governed parts of India. He was a very good soldier. He rose through the ranks to become a lieutenant colonel. This is a high-ranking officer position.

In 1802, Thomas married Caroline St. Leger. Her father was St Leger St Leger, 1st Viscount Doneraile. Later, in 1810, Thomas was given an important job. He became the Treasurer of Ordnance. This role involved managing the money for military equipment and supplies. Thomas lived in Burwood House in Surrey and later in Tunbridge Wells.

His Family

Thomas and Caroline Alcock had children together. One of their sons was William St Leger Alcock. William married Charlotte Stawell. She was from Kilbrittain Castle. Thomas Alcock (MP), who became a Member of Parliament, was Thomas Alcock's nephew.
