Early Life and Acting Debut
Thomas Barry was born in 1743. His father was the well-known actor Spranger Barry, and his mother was Anne. Thomas grew up around the theatre.
In 1761, Thomas Barry started his own acting career. His first performance was at the Theatre Royal, Cork. This theatre had been started by his father. For the next five years, Thomas continued to act in Cork. He also performed in Dublin at the Crow Street Theatre.
Managing the Cork Theatre
In 1766, Thomas's father, Spranger Barry, moved to London. He left Thomas in charge of the Cork Theatre. This decision caused some discussion in the local newspapers. There were some disagreements about Thomas's management and acting skills.
Moving to London and Later Years
After his time in Cork, Thomas Barry moved to London. In the summer of 1767, he joined his father and his stepmother, Ann Dancer, at the Haymarket Theatre.
While in London, Thomas performed in several famous plays. These included Venice Preserved, Jane Shore, Theodosius, King Lear, and The Countess of Salisbury. People sometimes compared his acting to his father's.
Final Days in Dublin
After his performances in London, Thomas Barry traveled back to Dublin. Sadly, he became very ill. Thomas Barry passed away in Dublin in April 1768. After his death, his wife also became an actress.
