Early Life and Education
Thomas Comber was born in a place called Shermanbury in Sussex, England. This was near the end of the 1500s. His father was Sir Richard Comber. Thomas went to school in Horsham and later studied at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Thomas Comber was very good at languages. He could speak and understand ancient Greek and Latin very well. He also knew several other languages. This made him a skilled "linguist," which is someone who studies and knows many languages.
Career and Leadership Roles
After traveling in Europe, Thomas Comber returned to England in 1623. He was chosen to be the King's Chaplain, a special advisor to the King. Soon after, he became the Dean of Carlisle. This role meant he was a senior leader in the church in Carlisle.
