Thomas Hunt (born September 15, 1841 – died December 8, 1934) was an important Australian politician. He helped make laws and represent people in the government of Victoria, Australia.

Early Life and Starting Out

Thomas Hunt was born in a place called Cappawhite in Tipperary, Ireland. His parents were John Hunt and Ann O'Brien. When he was about 16 years old, in May 1858, he traveled to Melbourne, Australia.

He settled in a town called Kilmore. In 1865, he started his own newspaper there, called the Kilmore Free Press. Later, he also bought another newspaper called the Examiner. He even started a few other newspapers in different country towns.

In 1868, Thomas Hunt married Catherine Mary Flynn in Melbourne.

A Career in Politics

Thomas Hunt decided to get involved in politics. In 1874, he was chosen by the people to be a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. This is like being a representative in the state government. He represented the area of Kilmore.

Over time, the name of the area he represented changed. In 1877, it became known as Kilmore and Anglesey. Then, in 1889, it was called Anglesey.

He lost his election in 1892, meaning he was not chosen to be a representative that year. However, he was re-elected in 1903, showing people still trusted him. In 1904, he began representing a new area called Upper Goulburn. His last time serving in government ended in 1908.

Thomas Hunt passed away in Kilmore in 1934.
