His Education and Early Life

Sir Thomas Knyvet went to Queens' College, Cambridge in 1584 to study. Later, in 1591, he studied law at a famous place called the Middle Temple. This was a common path for young men who wanted to work in government or law. In 1603, he was given the title of Knight, which meant he was recognized for his service to the country.

His Career in Public Service

Sir Thomas Knyvet held several important jobs. In 1600, he became the Purveyor of the Tower Mint. A "purveyor" was someone who supplied goods or services. The Tower Mint was where coins were made for England.

He also became a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person chosen to represent an area in the Parliament of England. Parliament was the main law-making body in England.

  • In 1593, he was elected as an MP for Aldeburgh.
  • In 1601, he was elected again, this time for Thetford.

His Family and Later Life

Sir Thomas Knyvet married a woman named Elizabeth. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Bacon of Stiffkey. Together, they had two sons and one daughter. One of their sons was also named Thomas Knyvet, and he later became the 5th Baron Berners. This son was known as a Royalist Justice of the Peace (JP). A Justice of the Peace was a local official who helped keep law and order.

Sir Thomas Knyvet passed away in 1605. He was buried in Feltwell, which is in Norfolk.
