This house is very important because of Thomas Moran. In 1965, it was named a National Historic Landmark. This means it's a place that tells a big part of American history. About the Moran House

The Thomas and Mary Nimmo Moran House is in the village of East Hampton. You can find it on the west side of Main Street. It's a unique two-story house made of wood. Thomas Moran built it in 1884. He used mostly recycled materials to construct his home.

The Artist's Studio

The most important room in the house is Thomas Moran's art studio. It is a very large room at the front of the house. The ceiling is 20 feet high, making it feel open and bright. Moran painted many of his famous artworks in this studio. He also welcomed many friends and other artists here.

Life at the House

The Moran House was Thomas and Mary's main home. They lived there from 1884 until Thomas passed away in 1926. Both Thomas and Mary are buried nearby in the South Side Cemetery. After Thomas died, the house stayed in private hands for many years.

Saving the House

By 2004, the house was in bad shape. Its owner, Elizabeth Lamb, passed away and left it to the owners of Guild Hall. Guild Hall is a cultural center in East Hampton. In 2008, the house was given to the Thomas Moran Trust. This group worked hard to raise money to fix up the house. The restoration was completed in early 2018. Now, the house is a museum for everyone to enjoy.
