This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Thomastown is where two main roads, Mississippi Highway 43 and Mississippi Highway 429, meet. It's about 11.9 miles (19.2 km) northwest of a larger town called Carthage.

Thomastown has its own post office. It opened on May 17, 1933, and uses the ZIP code 39171. For a time, Thomastown was also home to a masonic lodge, which was a local meeting place for a group called the Masons.
