Thornberry is a small, unincorporated community located in Clay County, Texas, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In the year 2000, about 60 people lived there. Thornberry is part of the larger Wichita Falls metropolitan area.

History of Thornberry
Thornberry started in 1890. It was first called Illinois Colony because people from Illinois moved there to create a new home.
How Thornberry Got Its Name
After a few years, the community changed its name to Thornberry. This was to honor Amos Thornberry. He was an important early settler and a dedicated orchardist. An orchardist is someone who grows fruit trees. Amos Thornberry helped bring large-scale fruit farming to the county.
Changes Over Time
Thornberry had its own post office starting in 1891, but it closed in 1908. There were plans to build a train line connecting Thornberry to Wichita Falls, but it was never completed.
In the 1930s and 1940s, only about 20 people lived in Thornberry. There were a few local businesses open during those years. The population grew to 60 residents by the late 1950s. At that time, there were three businesses. By 2000, there were no businesses left in the community. Experts think the population might grow to over 100 people by the year 2057.

On August 18, 2007, a tornado hit Thornberry. It was an F1 tornado, which means it was a weaker type of tornado but could still cause damage.
Where is Thornberry?
Thornberry is located in the northwestern part of Clay County. You can find it where two roads meet: Farm to Market Road 2393 and Farm to Market Road 171. It is about 12 miles (19 km) northeast of a larger city called Wichita Falls.

Students in Thornberry attend schools that are part of the Burkburnett Independent School District. Specifically, younger students are zoned to go to I.C. Evans Elementary School.
