Thoros III (also known as Toros III) was a king of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. He was born around 1271 and passed away on July 23, 1298. Thoros ruled as king from 1293 to 1296.

He was the son of King Leo II of Armenia and Queen Kyranna de Lampron. Thoros belonged to an important family called the House of Lampron.

In 1293, his brother, Hethum II, decided to step down from the throne. So, Thoros became king. However, in 1295, Thoros asked Hethum to return and rule alongside him as a co-king.

In 1296, Thoros and Hethum traveled with their sister, Rita of Armenia, to Constantinople. Their sister was going there to marry the Byzantine emperor, Michael IX Palaiologos.

When Thoros and Hethum returned, they were captured and put in prison at a place called Bardzrberd. This happened because their brother, Sempad, had taken over the throne while they were away. Sadly, Thoros was killed on July 23, 1298, in Bardzrberd. He was murdered by Oshin, who was a military leader, following Sempad's orders.

Thoros III's Family Life

Thoros III was married two times. His first marriage was to Margaret of Lusignan. She was the daughter of King Hugh III of Cyprus. They got married on January 9, 1288.

Thoros had one son from his first marriage, named Leo III of Armenia. This son later became the heir to his uncle, Hethum II. Leo III ruled as king from 1303 to 1307. Sadly, he was also killed along with his uncle by a Mongol general named Bilarghu during a special dinner.
