George "Tiger" Haynes (December 13, 1914 – February 14, 1994) was a talented American actor and jazz musician. He was sometimes called Colonel Tiger Haynes. He performed in plays, movies, and on television.
George was born in Frederiksted, St. Croix, which is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands. When he was a young boy, his family moved to New York City. Before becoming famous, George was a boxer.
He played guitar with a music group called The Three Flames from 1945 to 1956. This group was very popular. They even had their own radio show on NBC in the mid-1940s. In 1949, they got their own TV show on NBC television.
George made his first big appearance on Broadway in 1956. It was in a musical show called New Faces of 1956. He is most famous for playing the Tin Man. This was in the original Broadway play The Wiz. Later, another actor named Nipsey Russell played the Tin Man in the movie version.
George also appeared on many TV shows. These included The Cosby Show in 1989. He was also in In the Heat of the Night in 1989. His last TV role was in Law & Order in 1994. He also had small roles in movies like All That Jazz (1979) and Ratboy (1986).
