The Tigray Region is a large area in northern Ethiopia. Its capital city is Mekelle. Tigray is home to several groups of people. These include the Tigrayan, Irob, and Kunama peoples.
Tigray is an important region for travel. It has one international airport, called Alula Aba Nega Airport. There are also four other airports for local flights. These are Shire Airport, Humera Airport, Dansha Airport, and Axum Atse Yohannes 4th Airport.

Tigray is known for its amazing mountains. These tall peaks shape the land. They also create beautiful views across the region.
What are the Highest Mountains in Tigray?
- Ferrah Imba: This is the tallest mountain in Tigray. It stands 3,939 metres high. It is part of the Tsibet mountain range.
- Imba Alaje: This mountain reaches 3,438 metres. It is located in the Alaje area.
- Mugulat: Standing at 3,263 metres, Mugulat is another major peak. A special tunnel for walking, called the Siqurto foot tunnel, crosses one of its lower parts.
- Atsbi Horst: The high flat tops of Atsbi Horst are 3,057 metres tall.
- Imba Tsion: This mountain is 2,917 metres high.
- Ekli Imba: This peak is 2,799 metres tall. It is part of the Arebay mountain range.
- Imba Aradom: This mountain is 2,756 metres high.
- Soloda: At 2,436 metres, Soloda is part of the unique rock formations near Adwa.
- Imba Neway: This mountain reaches 2,388 metres.
