Namesake Tillie Town Road

Tillie was a small community or "populated place" that once existed in Adams County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It was located east of a town called Orrtanna.

Tillie was known for being the site of the McKnightstown railroad station. This station was an important stop on the Hanover Junction, Hanover and Gettysburg Railroad.

What Was Tillie?

Tillie was an unincorporated community. This means it was a place where people lived, but it didn't have its own local government like a city or a borough. Instead, it was part of a larger area called Franklin Township.

Where Was Tillie Located?

Tillie was situated in Adams County, Pennsylvania. You could find it to the east of Orrtanna. It was also south of another place called McKnightstown.

The Railroad Connection

A big part of Tillie's history is its connection to the railroad. The McKnightstown railroad station was a key feature of this community.

The Hanover Junction, Hanover and Gettysburg Railroad

This railroad line was very important for transportation and trade in the area. The station at Tillie was located between two other stations:

  • Orr Station: This was to the west of Tillie.
  • Seven Stars station: This was to the east of Tillie.

The railroad line was extended to the west from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1884. It continued further west, past Marsh Creek, in 1885. The Tillie community even had its own Post Office established in 1892.
