Tim Coronel's Racing Journey
Tim Coronel started his racing career by winning the Dutch Citroën AX Cup in 1994 when he was 22 years old. After that, he moved into single-seater racing cars. He finished seventh and then fifth in the Formula Opel Eurocup over two years. In 1997, he raced in German F3.
Touring Car Racing
In 1998, Tim switched to Touring Cars. He drove a Mitsubishi Carisma in the Dutch Championship. Over three years, he improved his position from eleventh to sixth, and then to third place. In 2001, he raced a Lexus IS200 and finished fifth. The next year, 2002, he drove a Renault Clio and came in fourth.
Tim continued to achieve great results. He won the Dutch Alfa Romeo 147 Challenge in 2003. Two years later, in 2005, he also won the Dutch Porsche GT3 Cup. From 2006 to 2008, he competed in the Dutch BMW 130i Cup.
SEAT León Eurocup and WTCC
In 2009, Tim Coronel joined the SEAT León Eurocup. At the very first race in Valencia, he finished third and fourth. This made him the top scorer of the weekend! Because of this great performance, he got a special chance to drive a SEAT León TFSI car for SUNRED Engineering in the next round of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) at Brno. It was exciting because SUNRED Engineering was also the team his twin brother, Tom, drove for in the WTCC.
Dakar Rally Adventures
In January 2009, Tim and his brother Tom Coronel took on a huge challenge: the 2009 Dakar Rally. They raced in a special car called a Bowler Nemesis. Tim loved the Dakar Rally so much that he competed again in 2010 and 2011. Both times, he drove a McRae Buggy and won the solo-class, which is a big achievement! In 2012, Tim raced in the Dakar Rally for the fifth time, again with the McRae Buggy. He had hoped to use an electric version of the Buggy, but it wasn't ready yet.
