Timothy Philip Don (born 14 January 1978) is a famous triathlete from the United Kingdom. A triathlete is an athlete who competes in a triathlon. A triathlon is a race with three parts: swimming, cycling, and running.

Tim Don's Amazing Career

Tim Don is the son of Philip Don, who was a referee in professional football. Tim started his sports journey early. He competed in the London Youth Games, representing his local area, Hounslow, in triathlon.

Early Olympic Races

Tim Don was part of the very first Olympic triathlon event. This happened at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. He finished in tenth place, which was a great achievement. His total time for the race was 1 hour, 49 minutes, and 28.85 seconds.

He also competed in the next Olympic triathlon. This was at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. In this race, he finished in eighteenth place. His time was 1 hour, 54 minutes, and 42.13 seconds.

Tim was chosen for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. However, he was not able to finish the race. He felt unwell before the event.

Becoming a World Champion

On 3 September 2006, Tim Don became a World Champion in triathlon. This big win happened in Lausanne, Switzerland. He finished 17 seconds ahead of another top triathlete, Hamish Carter.

During the race, Tim was in the main group after the swimming part. He then worked hard to catch up with the leaders on the bike section. He took the lead during the running part and held on to win.

After this big win, there was a challenge. Tim had missed some important checks for athletes. These checks are done outside of competitions. He appealed this decision. On 25 May 2007, he was allowed to compete in future Olympic Games. The sports officials said he had been "careless and irresponsible" but cleared him to race again.

Setting New Records

Tim continued to achieve great things in triathlon. On 5 August 2007, he won the London Triathlon. He finished with an impressive time of 1 hour, 42 minutes, and 1 second.

He also set a new world record in a special kind of triathlon called Ironman. This happened on 28 May 2017, in Brazil. He completed the Ironman South American Championship in an amazing time of 7 hours, 40 minutes, and 23 seconds. This was the fastest time ever recorded for an Ironman race at that point.

A Big Challenge and Comeback

Just two days before a very important race, the 2017 Ironman World Championships, Tim faced a big challenge. He was riding his bike in Hawaii when he was hit by a car. This accident caused a serious injury to his neck.

He had to wear a special neck brace called a "halo brace" for three months to help him heal. It was a very difficult time for him. But Tim is a very determined athlete. Six months after his injury, he made an incredible comeback. He competed in the 2018 Boston Marathon. He finished the marathon in 2 hours, 49 minutes, and 42 seconds. This showed his incredible spirit and strength.
