Tindley Temple United Methodist Church is a historic and important church located in the Southwest Center City area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This beautiful building was constructed between 1923 and 1928. It shows off two cool styles of architecture: Beaux-Arts Romanesque and Art Deco.

Discovering Tindley Temple Church
This special church is named after its founder, Reverend Dr. Charles Albert Tindley. He was a very important person who lived from 1851 to 1933. The church building has a unique front with patterned tan bricks. It also features rounded windows grouped together in arches.
What's Inside the Church?
The main worship area, called the sanctuary, was built to hold a lot of people. It could fit about 3,200 worshipers! Inside, there's a large balcony made of strong concrete. There's also a big organ built by a company called M. P. Moller. Organs are huge musical instruments that make amazing sounds.

Later, between 1962 and 1963, a school and office area were added to the church. This made the building even bigger and more useful for the community.
