Meet the Characters and Presenters
The show featured a group of unique characters and friendly presenters. They all helped children learn and have fun.
Tiny, the Wigasaurus
Tiny was a giant yellow creature known as a Wigasaurus. He had bright blue hair and was much bigger than life! Tiny was always shown as being 5 years old. Even though he couldn't speak English, Tiny loved to learn new things.
Tiny's Animal Friends
- Dog: This puppet dog loved bones and playing hide-and-seek.
- Arabella: A puppet frog who sometimes seemed a bit bossy. But she was always ready to try new things.
- The Buddets: These were singing flowers. They became even more special in the last series when they came to life!
The Human Presenters
At first, Tiny was joined by presenters Sarah Davison and Sophie Aldred. Sophie Aldred was also known as Sophie Socket on the show. In 1996, Sophie left to work on other TV shows. She presented Words and Pictures for the BBC. Later, she played 'Mini the magician' in the ITV series Zzzap!. Sarah then became the main presenter. In 1999, the idea of having human presenters changed. A lifelike doll named Tammy (or Tam) was introduced instead.
What Kids Learned from the Show
Tiny and Crew was designed to help children learn in a fun way. It focused on teaching them about colors, shapes, and numbers.
How Each Episode Worked
Each 20-minute episode had a special "playboard." This board had different colored shapes. The goal was to find out what was hidden under each shape. They used a multi-colored dice to pick which shape to explore next.
Fun Activities in Every Show
The show included many exciting parts:
- They explored real events from the world outside.
- They told interesting stories.
- Everyone sang along to fun songs.
- Dog and Arabella, the mascots for Tiny Living, had funny adventures.
- They tried to guess what was inside Tiny's mysterious bag.
- A popular part of the show was listening to the singing flowers, "Budd and the Buddets."
Tiny's Role as a Mascot
The character 'Tiny' was more than just a TV star. He was also a mascot for a special section of The Children's Channel called 'Tiny TCC'. This was for younger children in 1995 and 1996.
Mascots for Tiny Living
Tiny would appear with the presenter between the pre-school shows on Tiny TCC. Clips from the series were also shown throughout the day. When the children's block moved to Living TV and became Tiny Living, Dog and Arabella took over as the new mascots. They would present segments on screen. Later, Arabella was no longer a mascot, and Dog was joined by a human male or female presenter.
