Tioga is a small, unincorporated community located in Mahaska County, in the state of Iowa. An unincorporated community is a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
Tioga's Past
Tioga was officially planned and marked out on a map in 1886. It was named after another place called Tioga in Pennsylvania.
A post office opened in Tioga in 1886. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. However, the post office closed down in 1920.
In 1902, about 30 people lived in Tioga. By 1925, the population had grown a little bit to 45 people.
