Tiong Bahru MRT station facts for kids
Tiong Bahru MRT Station (also known as EW17) is an underground train station in Singapore. It's part of the East West Line, which is a big train system called the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT). This station is located in an area called Bukit Merah. It's special because it's the very last underground MRT station on the East West Line when you travel west!
The station is super convenient because it's directly connected to a shopping mall called Tiong Bahru Plaza. You can find it at the corner of Tiong Bahru Road and Jalan Membina. It helps people living in nearby neighborhoods like Bukit Ho Swee, Bukit Merah View, and Tiong Bahru get around easily. The station gets its name from the Tiong Bahru Estate, just like the Tiong Bahru Market and the Tiong Bahru area itself.
A Look Back in Time
Before June 20, 2003, Tiong Bahru MRT Station was the closest train station to Sentosa, a popular island resort. For a few years, there were special shuttle buses that took people from Tiong Bahru MRT straight to Sentosa. However, these bus services were stopped in 2004 when new train lines made it easier to reach Sentosa from other stations.
