Tishynah Buffalo grew up in Alexander First Nation, Alberta. She lived there with her parents, two younger sisters, and younger brother. Today, Tishynah lives in George Gordon First Nation in Saskatchewan. She shares her home with her husband and their two children. Their names are Tayvon Lloyd and Lariah Monroe.
When Tishynah was a teenager, she noticed something important. There were not many Indigenous people shown in magazines. Especially in fashion magazines. She wanted to change this. In an interview with CBC News, she said she wanted to show the world Cree Indigenous creativity.
Tishynah's Fashion Work
Tishynah Buffalo started her fashion journey in 2010. She began by making clothes for her own children. First, she created special items for powwows. Then, she started making coats from warm Pendleton blankets. Other people saw her amazing work. They encouraged her to make custom designs for them.
Today, Tishynah's designs often feature patterns from Pendleton blankets. She also uses beautiful beadwork styles from the Cree people. Her work mixes traditional Indigenous art with modern fashion.
