Julio César Rojas López, known to many as Tito Rojas, was a famous Puerto Rican salsa singer and songwriter. He was born on June 14, 1955, and passed away on December 26, 2020. People also called him "El Gallo Salsero", which means "The Salsa Rooster".

Tito Rojas's Early Life
Tito Rojas grew up in Humacao, Puerto Rico, a town on the east coast of Puerto Rico. He went to school there. From a young age, he loved to sing for his family. He also enjoyed singing popular salsa songs with his friends.
Tito Rojas's Music Career
TIn 1975, Tito Rojas tried out for Pedro Conga and his International Orchestra. He was hired as a singer for the band. After a short time, he left that group. He then joined "Conjunto Borincuba" as their lead singer. With this band, he helped record the album Con Amor (With Love). This album became a big hit in 1978.
That same year, Rojas joined the famous Fania All-Stars. He had a hit song with them called El Campesino (The Farmer). After working with the Fania All-Stars for a while, Rojas decided to start his own band. He called it "Conjunto Borincano", but this group did not last long.
In the late 1980s, he joined the "Puerto Rican Power" band. With them, he had hit salsa versions of popular ballads. These included Noche de Bodas (Wedding Night) in 1987 and Quiereme Tal Como Soy (Love Me the Way I Am) in 1989.
Tito Rojas Goes Solo
In 1990, Tito Rojas began his solo career. He released several albums, including Sensual (1990), Condename (1992), and A Mi Estilo (At My Style) (1994). His album Condename earned him nominations for important music awards in 1993.
His 1995 album, Por Propio Derecho (On My Own Right), made him very famous. It put him on the Latin Billboard music charts. The main song from this album, "Esperándote" ("Waiting for You"), became his first number-one hit. It topped the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart. He also won the "Paoli Prize" for "Best Salsa Artist of the Year".
In 1996, Rojas had more hit songs like Humildemente (Humbly) and Pal' Pueblo (For My Town). He also released albums such as 20th Aniversario and Alegrias y Penas in 1999. Alegrias y Penas featured the hit song "Por Mujeres Como Tú". This song became his second number-one hit on the Tropical Airplay chart. The album itself sold over 200,000 copies in the United States.
Tito Rojas's Later Career
In 2002, Tito Rojas and his band performed live in Las Vegas, Nevada. They recorded this show as an album called Tito Rojas Live: Autenticamente En Vivo. Famous musician Roberto Roena joined them as a special guest.
Rojas continued to release music, including El Viajero in 2014. In 2015, he worked with Puerto Rican singer Ivy Queen. They sang a duet called "Ella Se Hizo Deseo" on her salsa album Vendetta.
Tito Rojas was nominated three times for the Latin Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album. His last album, Un Gallo Para la Historia, was released in 2019. On November 25, 2020, Tito Rojas gave his last live performance. It was on Norberto Vélez's YouTube channel.
Tito Rojas's Passing
Tito Rojas passed away on December 26, 2020. He was 65 years old. He died after suffering a heart attack. He was laid to rest at the Pax Christi Cemetery in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
