Appearing on The Voice
In April 2011, Tje Austin tried out for the American TV show The Voice. This show is a singing competition where judges pick singers for their teams without seeing them first. For his audition, Tje sang "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars. Two of the coaches, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green, liked his voice and wanted him on their team. Tje Austin chose to join Cee Lo Green's team.
Later in the competition, during the "battle rounds," Tje Austin sang against his teammate Nakia. They performed the song "Closer" by Ne-Yo. Even though a guest advisor thought Tje had an amazing voice, Cee Lo Green decided to keep Nakia on his team. This meant Tje Austin was eliminated from the competition.
