Tjial facts for kids
The Tjial were an Aboriginal Australian people who lived in the Northern Territory. Sadly, they are no longer living as a distinct group today.
Where Did the Tjial People Live?
The Tjial people lived in a region that was their traditional home. This area was estimated by a researcher named Norman Tindale to be about 1,700 square miles (4,400 square kilometers). Their main area was around a place called Old Limbunja. They lived between the lower part of the Victoria River and the upper part of the West Baines River.
The Tjial People's History
In 1901, a researcher named R. H. Mathews described the Tjial as an "important tribe." However, by the time Norman Tindale wrote about them in 1978, the Tjial people were no longer living as a distinct group. After the Tjial people were no longer present, their lands were then used by the Ngaliwurru people, who lived to their north.
