Tobaccoville's Railroad Past
Long ago, Tobaccoville was an important stop for trains. From 1884 to 1905, the Farmville and Powhatan Railroad passed through here. Later, from 1905 to 1917, it became a stop on the Tidewater and Western Railroad.
Trains were very important for moving goods. Farmers could use the railroad to send their products to markets. For example, a farm called "Indian Camp" was advertised as being close to the Tobaccoville station. This made it easier for farmers to sell dairy products like milk and cheese.
