Toby the Tram Engine is a beloved fictional character. He comes from The Railway Series books. These books were written by Reverend Wilbert Vere Awdry and his son, Christopher Awdry. Toby also appears in the popular TV show Thomas & Friends.
Toby is a special kind of train called a tram engine. He looks different from other engines. He has cowcatchers at the front. These are bars that push things off the tracks. He also has sideplates along his sides. These cover his wheels for safety. Toby is number seven on the North Western Railway. He works on the same Ffarquhar branch line as Thomas the Tank Engine.
Toby's First Adventures
Toby first appeared in the seventh book of The Railway Series. This book was called Toby the Tram Engine. It was published in 1952. After that, Toby appeared in many more books.
Toby in the Books
The second book that focused on Toby was Toby, Trucks and Trouble. This book was written by Christopher Awdry. It was the sixth book in his series.
