Christopher Vere Awdry (born 2 July 1940) is an English author. He is best known for writing books in The Railway Series. These books feature popular characters like Thomas the Tank Engine. His father, Wilbert Awdry, started the series. Christopher also wrote other children's books. He has written non-fiction articles about heritage railways too. He was born in Devizes, England. When he was five months old, his family moved to Kings Norton. He went to school at Worksop College.
Christopher Awdry and The Railway Series
Christopher Awdry played a big part in creating Thomas and his railway. The very first Thomas story was told to him by his father. This happened in 1942 when Christopher had measles.
His father retired from writing the books in 1972. After that, Christopher took over and wrote many Thomas books himself. The series later became known as Thomas & Friends.
In 2006, the publishers decided to print all the books again. Christopher's fourteen books were re-released in 2007. His favorite character from the series is Toby.
The publishers were very interested in the series. Christopher Awdry wrote a new book called Thomas and Victoria. This book focused on stories about saving old railways. It was the forty-first book in the series. It came out on 3 September 2007.
In 2010, another book was announced. It was published in 2011. This book was called Thomas and His Friends. It became the last book in The Railway Series.
