Tocaloma is a small place in Marin County, California. It is called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
The name Tocaloma comes from the Miwok people. In their language, Tokoloma means "salamander."
Where is Tocaloma?
Tocaloma is located in a beautiful part of California. It is about 3 miles (5 kilometers) east-southeast of Point Reyes Station. This community sits at an elevation of 75 feet (23 meters) above sea level.
You can find Tocaloma near the historic Northwestern Pacific Railroad line. If you are driving, it's close to McIsaac's ranch on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. This spot is just before the road goes up a hill towards Olema.
A Bit of History
Tocaloma once had its own post office. This post office served the community for many years. It was open from 1891 until 1919.
