Todorova Island is a small, triangular island covered in ice, located in a very cold place called Antarctica. It's part of a group of islands known as the Biscoe Islands. This island is quite new! It only appeared in 2011-2012 when a large ice cap on a nearby island melted away.

Todorova Island: An Antarctic Discovery

Todorova Island is shaped like a triangle and is completely covered in ice. It stretches about 1 kilometer (which is 1000 meters) from southwest to northeast. It is also about 450 meters wide from southeast to northwest. The island has a total area of 26.2 hectares.

Todorova Island is separated from the southwest coast of Belding Island by a passage. This passage is about 1.2 kilometers long and narrows to just 80 meters at some points.

How Did Todorova Island Form?

This island is a recent discovery. It was formed because the ice cap on Belding Island started to melt and shrink. This happened between 2011 and 2012. As the ice melted, it revealed the land underneath, creating Todorova Island. This shows how much the landscape of Antarctica can change due to ice melting.

Where is Todorova Island?

Todorova Island is located at 66°24′13″S 67°15′54″W / 66.40361°S 67.26500°W / -66.40361; -67.26500. It is about 4.2 kilometers southwest of a place called Yaglou Point. It is also 3 kilometers northeast of Decazes Island. These locations are all within the Biscoe Islands group in Antarctica.

Who is Katya Todorova?

The island is named after a person named Katya Todorova. She was an important person in Bulgaria's government. She worked as a Deputy Foreign Minister, which means she helped manage Bulgaria's relationships with other countries.
