Later, he worked in the government of President Juan José de Amézaga. Berreta was known as an experienced and respected member of the Colorado Party. Because of his long history in politics, he was chosen to run for president. He aimed to take over from President Amézaga.

Important Actions as President

His Time as President Ends

President Berreta's time in office was very brief. He passed away on August 2, 1947, just five months after becoming president. He was 72 years old.

When a president cannot finish their term, the Vice President of Uruguay takes over. Luis Batlle Berres was the Vice President during Berreta's presidency. So, after Berreta's death, Luis Batlle Berres became the new President of Uruguay.
