Club Career Highlights
Starting His Journey
As a young player, Rogic played for local clubs like Woden Weston and Tuggeranong United. In 2009, he joined his first senior team, ANU FC, in the ACT Premier League. In 2011, he moved to Belconnen United.
That same year, Rogic won a special competition called The Chance. Out of 75,000 young footballers worldwide, he was one of only eight winners chosen to join the Nike Football Academy. This was a big step for his career!
Playing for Central Coast Mariners
On January 2, 2012, Rogic signed with the A-League club Central Coast Mariners. He played his first professional game on January 21, 2012. The Mariners won that game 3–2. He scored his first goal for the club on February 10, 2012. He was even named the A-League's young player of the month for February 2012.
In the 2012–13 season, Rogic decided to stay with the Mariners, even though other clubs wanted him. He scored two goals in a huge 7–2 win against Sydney FC. His great play earned him the NAB Young Footballer of the Month Award in November 2012. Many big clubs from Europe, like Reading and Fulham from England, and Club Brugge from Belgium, started to notice him.
Moving to Celtic F.C.
On January 9, 2013, news spread that Rogic had joined Scottish Premier League champions Celtic for training in Spain. A week later, his transfer from Central Coast Mariners to Celtic was confirmed.
Rogic made his debut for Celtic on February 9, 2013. He helped his team score a goal and was named the Man of the Match! He played seven more games for Celtic that season.
Dealing with Injuries
The next few years were tough for Rogic because of injuries. He had a recurring groin injury that limited his playing time. In January 2014, he was loaned to Melbourne Victory in Australia. Unfortunately, his injury kept him from playing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2015 AFC Asian Cup for Australia. He needed two operations and didn't play again until March 2015.
Becoming a Celtic Star
On August 9, 2015, Rogic started his first game for Celtic in almost two years. He scored the first goal in a 2–0 win. He started playing regularly and scored more goals in the following weeks. His goal against Kilmarnock in March 2016 was even named Celtic's "Goal of the Season."
Even though big clubs like Arsenal were interested in him, Rogic signed a new three-year contract with Celtic in August 2016. He continued to score important goals, including two against Motherwell and a key goal in a Champions League play-off game.
Rogic scored the first goal in Celtic's 3–0 win in the Scottish League Cup Final in November 2016. He also scored a winning goal in injury time against Motherwell in December. On May 27, 2017, Rogic scored a late winning goal in the Scottish Cup Final. This win helped Celtic achieve a "domestic treble," meaning they won all three major national trophies in one season!
In May 2018, Rogic signed another new contract with Celtic.
After a period where he didn't play as much, things changed for Rogic when Australian manager Ange Postecoglou joined Celtic in June 2021. Rogic knew Postecoglou from the Australian national team. Under his new coach, Rogic started playing regularly again and showed impressive performances. He even earned a spot in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.
On May 13, 2022, Celtic announced that Rogic would be leaving the club after the final game of the season. He said it had been an "amazing journey" and he was proud to help the team win the title again. In his last game, he received a standing ovation from the fans. He and teammate Nir Bitton brought out the Scottish Premiership trophy together.
Time at West Bromwich Albion
On September 12, 2022, Rogic joined EFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion. He made his debut on October 1, 2022. He scored his first goal for the club on December 12, 2022, helping his team win 2–1 against Sunderland.
In October 2024, Rogic announced that he was retiring from football to spend more time with his family.
International Career
Futsal
Before playing traditional soccer, Rogic represented Australia in Futsal. Futsal is a version of soccer played indoors on a smaller court. At the 2010 AFC Futsal Championship, Rogic scored six goals, making him Australia's top scorer in the tournament at just 18 years old.
Olympic Team
On March 7, 2012, Rogic was chosen to play for the Australia Olympic team in a qualifying match for the 2012 Summer Olympics. He made his debut in that game.
Senior National Team
Rogic played his first game for the Australia national team (nicknamed the Socceroos) on November 14, 2012. It was a friendly game against South Korea, which Australia won. In June 2013, he helped set up a goal for his captain, Lucas Neill, in a World Cup Qualifier.
On September 3, 2015, Rogic scored his first two goals for Australia in a 5–0 win against Bangladesh. In March 2016, he scored two more goals in three minutes against Tajikistan, helping Australia win 7–0. He scored another goal five days later against Jordan.
On June 8, 2017, Rogic scored the winning goal in a 3–2 victory over Saudi Arabia in a World Cup qualifier. He controlled the ball and shot it into the net from outside the box. Rogic also played in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. In Australia's first game against Germany, he scored a goal and helped set up another.
In May 2018, he was selected for Australia's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
In August 2021, Rogic returned to play for the Socceroos in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He helped Australia win 3–0 against China PR by assisting a goal.
