Tommie Pierson Sr. was born on January 29, 1946. He is an American politician from the state of Missouri. As a member of the Democratic Party, Mr. Pierson worked in the Missouri House of Representatives. He represented the 66th district from 2011 until 2017. Currently, he serves as the Mayor of Bellefontaine Neighbors.
Early Life and Work
Tommie Pierson Sr. grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He finished high school at Beaumont High School. After school, he worked for a big car company called General Motors. He also became a Baptist pastor, which means he leads a church.
Serving in Government
Mr. Pierson decided to get involved in politics to help his community. In 2010, he was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives. This is a group of people who make laws for the state of Missouri. He worked there from 2011 to 2017.
While in the House, he led a group called the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus. This group works to make sure the laws help everyone, especially African American communities. In 2016, he tried to become the Lieutenant Governor of Missouri. This is another important job in the state government. He ran in the Democratic Party's primary election but did not win.
Family in Politics
After Tommie Pierson Sr. finished his time in the Missouri House, his son, Tommie Pierson Jr., took over his seat. This means his son continued to represent the same district.
