History of Too Cool
The team started as "Too Much" with Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor. Their characters were two wrestlers who cared a lot about how they looked. They first appeared together at WrestleMania XIV in 1998. They often wrestled against other light heavyweight wrestlers and helped Jerry "The King" Lawler (who was Christopher's father) in his wrestling stories.
In June 1999, their team name changed to Too Cool. They started as "bad guys" in wrestling stories, but by late 1999, they became "good guys" and fan favorites, especially when Rikishi joined them.
Becoming Fan Favorites (1999–2001)
Too Cool became super popular because of their new hip-hop style. After their matches, they would dance in the ring with flashing lights and music. This dance routine quickly became a huge hit with fans. They also had popular signature moves, like Scotty's "The Worm" and Rikishi's "Stink Face."
Too Cool became even more important in the WWE when they started wrestling against top groups like D-Generation X and The Radicalz. They even teamed up with big stars like The Rock and Cactus Jack in major matches.
Their biggest success came in mid-2000, when they won the Tag Team Championship in May. Soon after, Rikishi won the Intercontinental Championship in June.
However, the group started to break apart in late 2000 when Rikishi left and became a "bad guy" in the storyline. In March 2001, Too Cool officially split up.
Reunions and Later Years (2003–2014)
Rikishi and Scotty reunited in October 2003. They won the WWE Tag Team Championship in February 2004, defeating the Basham Brothers. They held the titles for over two months, even defending them successfully at WrestleMania XX. They lost the titles in April 2004. Rikishi left the company shortly after.
In 2014, the original trio of Too Cool reunited for a special "Old School Raw" episode. They won a six-man tag team match against 3MB. They also challenged The Ascension for the NXT Tag Team Championship but did not win.
Independent Wrestling Appearances (2003–2016)
After their time in WWE, members of Too Cool would sometimes reunite for matches in smaller wrestling companies, known as the independent circuit.
Their last match as a team was in 2016. They continued to make appearances at fan events until Brian Christopher Lawler passed away in July 2018.
