Music Career and Achievements
In the mid-1990s, Tori Fixx was a DJ. He even DJed at parties for the famous musician Prince at Paisley Park Studios in Minnesota.
He released his first solo music album in 1998. Since then, he has released many more albums.
By 2001, Fixx was back living in Minneapolis. In 2003, he traveled to Oakland, California. There, he performed at the PeaceOUT World Homo Hop Festival. This festival celebrates hip hop artists who are open about their identities.
Tori Fixx's music was also featured in movies. In 2004, his songs were part of the soundtrack for the film The Ski Trip.
Documentary and Awards
In 2005, Fixx appeared in a documentary called Pick Up the Mic. This film was about the LGBT hip hop music scene. Tori Fixx had produced music for many of the artists shown in the film.
His album Marry Me was recognized as one of the top indie albums of 2005 by The Advocate magazine. The main song from this album talked about marriage equality. It was nominated for an Outmusic Award in 2005 for Out Song of the Year.
Fixx also produced an album for fellow rapper Johnny Dangerous. This album was called Dangerous Liaisons. Fixx released it on his own music label, US 2. It was nominated for an Outmusic Award in 2004.
Later Projects and Tours
In 2007, Tori Fixx joined the "HomoRevolution Tour 2007." He also appeared on The Tyra Banks Show with other artists like Deadlee and Foxxjazell. His album Code Red marked ten years of him being an openly identified hip hop artist.
In late 2008, he released his album Couture. He had originally planned for this album to discuss political topics. However, after a personal relationship ended, the album became more about his own feelings.
