Deadlee's Music Journey
Early Music: 7 Deadlee Sins (2000-2005)
Deadlee began his music career in 2000. In 2002, he released his first album, 7 Deadlee Sins. This album mixed hip hop with rock. His songs discussed important subjects like different cultures, social groups, and how people are treated. This album was one of the first to come out during an underground music movement that started in the early 2000s.
Deadlee performed at many music festivals. These included the "Peace Out Festival" in Oakland, California, "Peace Out East" in New York City, and "HomoAGoGo" in Olympia, Washington. At first, some groups did not like his direct style. For example, the "Long Beach Gay and Lesbian Pride Festival" even stopped him from performing. But as he became more well-known, more people accepted his music. Deadlee later performed at the "Los Angeles Latin Gay Pride Festival", the annual Christopher Street "West Los Angeles Pride" festival in West Hollywood, and the "San Francisco LGBT Pride" Main Stage.
Later Albums: Assault With a Deadlee Weapon (2006-2012)
After working on several movie soundtracks and documentaries, Deadlee released his second album in 2006. It was called Assault With a Deadlee Weapon. This album had songs that responded to other rappers who had spoken negatively about certain groups. The songs on Assault With a Deadlee Weapon focused on challenges people face.
The album had a stronger sound and featured many other rappers and artists. These included Johnny Dangerous, Tori Fixx, Salvi-Mex, Dutchboy, Barnes, Drastiko, and Clint Catalyst. The music video for his song "Good Soldier II" was shown many times on the MTV-owned network LOGO. To support his album, Deadlee went on the "Homo Revolution" tour with other rappers. This tour was managed by Camilo Arenivar.
In June 2009, Deadlee performed four times at the Fresh Meat Festival. This was a modern variety show that featured top performers. He started with a powerful spoken word piece. Then he performed two classic Deadlee songs, "Nasty" and "Carnival in My Mind". People praised Deadlee for his exciting and strong performances. He showed he could perform well in any setting.
Deadlee's Acting Work (2012-Present)
Deadlee has also started working in the movie industry as an actor. He has appeared in several comedy films. He also played a homeless person in the zombie movie L.A. Zombie. He was also in the movie RAMPART. He starred in a long-running play in Los Angeles called Eavesdropper.
Deadlee has now focused on writing. He wrote a script for a comedy called “CHOLO #1”. This script is partly based on his experiences auditioning in Hollywood. A new documentary about him, called AKA DEADLEE, was released in 2023. Deadlee also hosts a podcast called “DEADLEE USA”.
