Torill Thorstad Hauger (born November 22, 1943 – died July 4, 2014) was a talented Norwegian writer and illustrator. She was famous for her many award-winning novels, especially those with historical themes for children and teenagers. Her stories often took readers back in time to exciting periods like the Viking Age and the Middle Ages.

About Torill Thorstad Hauger
Torill Thorstad Hauger was born in Oslo, Norway. She grew up in a neighborhood called Vika. There, she went to a school where she learned about art and crafts. Later, she studied at the University of Oslo. She learned about German language, the study of cultures (ethnology), old stories and traditions (folklore), and digging up old things (archaeology).
From 1966 to 1971, Torill worked at the University Museum of National Antiquities, which is a history museum. She started her writing career in 1976. Her first book was a documentary called Karl Eugen Olsen fra Vika, and it won an award!
Her Books for Young Readers
Between 1978 and 2001, Torill wrote many books for children. Her first children's books were set in the exciting Viking Age. This was a time when Vikings sailed the seas. Later, her books explored the Middle Ages, a period of knights and castles. Some of her books even told stories about people moving to North America. These books became very popular and were printed many times.
Awards and Recognition
Torill's documentary Krestiane Kristiania from 1984 won her the Norwegian Booksellers' Prize. This is a big award for writers in Norway. In 1980, she also won the Norwegian Critics Prize for the best children's or youth's book of the year. She received the Dobloug Prize in 1991, another important literary award.
One of her children's books, Sigurd Drakedreper (which means "Sigurd the Dragon Slayer"), was even made into a film in 1989! Torill was also involved in groups that supported young writers and preserved the history of Oslo. She passed away on July 4, 2014, at the age of 70.
