The Torre Río Real is an old tower located in Marbella, a city in southern Spain. It was built a long time ago, in the year 1575. This tower stands right next to a busy road called the Mediterranean Expressway. It is about 10.85 meters (around 35 feet) tall and has a circumference of 22 meters (about 72 feet).

Why Was Torre Río Real Built?

This tower, like many others along the Mediterranean coast of Andalusia, was part of an important defense system. These towers were like ancient watchtowers or lighthouses. Their main job was to keep an eye on the coast and warn people about any dangers, especially from ships or invaders coming from the sea. They helped protect the land and its people.

Protecting Important Buildings

Torre Río Real is considered a very important historical building. Because of its history and value, it has been given a special title in Spain: Bien de Interés Cultural. This means it's recognized as a cultural heritage site, and it's protected by law so it can be preserved for future generations to learn from and enjoy.
