Torrey Highlands is a neighborhood in northern San Diego, California. It is mostly a place where people live. Most of the homes and buildings in Torrey Highlands were built starting in the year 2000.

History of Torrey Highlands
Before Torrey Highlands became a neighborhood with many homes, the land was mainly used for farming.
Around 1994, some people who worked on farms in the area moved to Torrey Highlands. They lived in the canyons and helped with the farming. This group of people lived there until the 2010s.
In 1996, the city leaders and voters approved a special plan for Torrey Highlands. This plan helped the area grow from a future development zone into a real community.
Most of the neighborhood was built in the 2000s. A major road, State Route 56, now runs right through the community.
Where is Torrey Highlands?
Torrey Highlands is surrounded by other neighborhoods.
- To the north is Black Mountain Ranch.
- To the south is Del Mar Mesa.
- To the east is Rancho Peñasquitos.
- To the west is Pacific Highlands Ranch.
- To the northwest is Fairbanks Ranch.
The plan for Torrey Highlands, approved in 1996, set rules for how the land would be used. It said there could be no more than 2,600 homes. The plan also decided how much land would be used for different things:
- 50 percent for homes.
- 30 percent for parks and open spaces.
- 12 percent for schools.
- 5 percent for shops and businesses.
- 3 percent for job centers.
Who Lives in Torrey Highlands?
In January 2006, about 2,401 people lived in Torrey Highlands. There were 227 households, which are like family units or groups living together. This was a big increase from the year 2000, when only 8 people lived there.
Most people in Torrey Highlands were White (58.6%) or Asian (30.5%). About 5.5% were Hispanic, and smaller groups were from other backgrounds. The average age of people living there was about 39.9 years old. About 28.2% of the people were under 18, and 8.5% were over 65.
The average yearly income for a household in 2006 was about $130,086. This means that most families earned a good amount of money.
Schools in Torrey Highlands
Students in Torrey Highlands go to schools in the Poway Unified School District. One of the schools, Westview High School, is located right in the neighborhood.
