Toru Irie (入江 徹, Irie Toru) was born on July 8, 1977. He is a Japanese football manager and a former football player. Today, he is the manager of the Albirex Niigata club.

Toru Irie's Playing Career

Irie was born in Shizuoka, Japan. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey in 1996. He joined Kashiwa Reysol as a defender.

Early Years at Kashiwa Reysol

Irie made his first appearance for Kashiwa Reysol in 1998. He played many games as a left defender. In 1999, he played fewer matches. He stayed with the club until 2001.

Moving to New Clubs

In 2002, Irie moved to Vissel Kobe. He did not play many games there. The next year, in 2003, he joined Gamba Osaka. At Gamba Osaka, he continued to play as a left defender. His team, Gamba Osaka, won the championship in the 2005 J1 League. Toru Irie played a total of 78 league games in his career. He stopped playing professional football at the end of the 2007 season.

Toru Irie's Managerial Career

After he stopped playing, Irie started a new role in football. In 2008, he joined the coaching team at Albirex Niigata.

Coaching at Albirex Niigata

Irie worked as a coach for 17 years at Albirex Niigata. He coached different age groups of players. He also coached the ladies' team. In 2022, he became the head coach for the club.

Becoming a Manager

In June 2025, Toru Irie was chosen to be the manager of J1 League club Albirex Niigata. This was a big step in his career.
