Toru Irie (born July 8, 1977) is a former Japanese football player. He used to play as a defender. After he stopped playing, he became an assistant manager. He currently works for the J1 League club Albirex Niigata.

Toru Irie was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on July 8, 1977. He loved football from a young age. After finishing high school, he joined a professional team.
Starting with Kashiwa Reysol
In 1996, Toru Irie began his professional career. He joined the team Kashiwa Reysol. Another player, Tomonori Hirayama, joined with him. Toru Irie started playing in official games in 1998. He played many matches as a left defender. A left defender helps protect the goal from the left side of the field. He played less in 1999.
Moving to New Teams
In 2002, Toru Irie moved to a new team called Vissel Kobe. However, he did not play many games there. In 2003, he moved again to Gamba Osaka. This move was a big step for his career.
Winning with Gamba Osaka
At Gamba Osaka, Toru Irie played as a left defender again. His team had great success. In 2005, Gamba Osaka won the championship. They won the J1 League, which is a major football league in Japan. Toru Irie continued to play for Gamba Osaka until 2007. He decided to stop playing professional football at the end of the 2007 season.
