Tossal dels Tres Reis (which means 'Peak of the Three Kings') is a mountain in the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit area of Spain. It is also sometimes called Tossal del Rei ('Peak of the King'). This mountain stands tall at 1,350 metres (about 4,429 feet) above sea level.

It is considered one of the special and important mountains known as the Emblematic Summits of Catalonia.

What's in a Name?

The name 'Peak of the Three Kings' comes from its unique location. This mountain is exactly where the borders of three old kingdoms used to meet. These were the Kingdom of Aragon, the Kingdom of Valencia, and the Principality of Catalonia.

The Legend of the Three Kings

There's an old story about this mountain from the time when Moors and Christians lived in Spain. The legend says that three kings, two who were not Christian and one who was, would meet on top of this mountain. From its peak, they could see all their lands.

To mark the spot where these three kings met, there is a special pile of stones called a cairn on the summit.
